Don't separate username and password input fields

As more people use password management apps like 1Password, it's super annoying to not have a way to input both username (email) and password at the same time using the quick login button since you guys separate each field by a mouse click.

I guess I understand the reasoning behind this (makes the user think at first that they don't have to put in as much info), but it really ends up being more clunky in practice.

Would it be the end of the world to just pop up both fields at the same time?

This is designed in this way to allow for a login or sign up through the same action. By asking for the email address first, this allows a lookup to see whether the account exists and whether the user should be asked for their password or for details to create a new account.

This makes it easy for either action to occur, without the need for separate login/sign up pages and actions.

While we can understand the benefit of an easier login through password management apps, at this stage, we are unlikely to make changes in this area. We hope you can understand.

Very bad example if UI. Please change the login as described as it's a PITA!

I think that some password managers (I'm aware of Chrome and Lastpass) are not seeing the single email field as part of a login form so they are not auto-filling information there. I believe this is because the ID and Name tags do not clearly identify it as such. Using something like "username" instead of the current "sessions[email]", should resolve this. This Lastpass article led me to this conclusion and I've tested this successfully in Chrome.

I agree. Your login process is very non-standard.

Furthermore, your website behaves in such a way that it can't remember my username/email address like every other website out there.

Then there is the fact that trying to post a comment here, it asked me to create a new account. Apparently it doesn't recognize my login that I already have. Really bad architecture for your logins.

I'm talking about the front-end experience for users. I don't have a problem with the backend login screen because it has both fields right there.

Just trying to post this comment, I had to use the auto-fill twice to login.

Can you expand on the problem you are seeing? The login page for Aha! at https://secure.aha.io doesn't require that there is a click between entering your email address and your password.
