I shouldn't have to specify a unique set of categories for each product in the Idea portal. There should be a set of categories that can be applied to any Idea for any product. Put differently, each product would inherit the categories of its parents, and could be modified in the same way as the Terminology is inherited or customized throughout other areas of the application.
Dealing with this now. We're a PE portfolio holding company so ability to scale frameworks for teams in a consistent manner is essential for us.
Ironic that this is a 5 year old post that, at its core, is all of us asking for the software to use a similar cascading approach for idea categories as would be the case for something like feature workflows, layouts, etc. It gives ammunition to competitors like Canny who argue that Ideas in Aha are a "bolt on" function not really built with serious intentions in mind. See https://canny.io/compare/aha#compared
Team Aha, this isn't really a "feature ask" so much as a form of UX/tech debt that should just be part of your regular development planning. Please don't make us vote on debt items.
One additional comment, even if the categories were put in at the product line level and were inherited down to the workspaces within that line, that would be a time saver too.
It would also be nice to be able to report on categories across products to help define yearly initiatives for ideas.
I totally agree. This should be inheritable as I have many products sharing the same categories concept
Huge pain in the butt for folks that have several divisions and multiple products. To gain uniformity....and to launch ideas through the proper channel....these categories are vital and need to be consistent. I have spent about 4 hours today going through each product to unify this..........kill me with paper cuts.
