Sync goals between parent and child records

I would like a way to easily

  • 'Roll-up' all the goals from a child record (i.e. feature) to the parent (i.e. release or epic)

  • 'Send down' all the goals from the parent record to the children

Currently, automation rules require a separate rule for adding each specific goal from a child record to the parent or vice versa.

You can now create automation rules for epics to copy the epic's initiative to its child features. We will keep this idea open to monitor feedback on syncing goals.

It would be very useful to be able to update the goals on an epic or feature based on the goals linked to the relevant initiative.

Below is the hierarchy and automations I was planning to implement at each level but I have only been able to address the initiative related actions and not the goal related actions as there is no option in the actions for something equivalent to ‘same as initiative’s objective’.

    Goal

    Initiative

    • When update goal --> update goal on all related epics + update goal on all related features

    Epic

    • When update initiative --> update goal on this epic + update goal on all related features + update initiative on all related features

    Feature

    • When update epic --> update goal on this feature + update initiative on this feature

    • When update initiative (for use cases where there's no parent epic) --> update goal on this feature

Yep this is a useful one for me. Please don't make me use lists to bulk edit this stuff.

I just came across this myself and was searching the idea portal before submitting my own request. I tried solving it with the automation tools, but as mentioned in one of the other comments, you can't choose "Epic Field Value"

I posted a screenshot to illustrate how close we can get today. If, on that bottom right dropdown, I could select "Epic Initiative" then I could achieve the spirit of the request.

The same could be done for "Epic Goal(s)" I imagine.

This is similar to the idea at https://big.ideas.aha.io/ideas/APP-I-2206, that was strangely marked as "Unlikely to implement".

Using automation to enable that would fix all these ideas at once

Also, when creating rules, you need to specify "static" values for assignment (action). There should be the option to copy from the object that generated the trigger.

Being a large company, we have many goals. We are struggling with this same issue. creating a large amount of rules seems redundant, and having an "any goal" option when creating the automation rule would be very helpful.

Default 'Goals' and 'Initiative' through to the Features when set for a Master Feature (Epic)

When I set the values of 'Goals' and 'Initiative' in an Epic, those choices should be automatically set for the Features within that Epic. As it is now, I need to go into each of the Features and set those values.

As a user, I would like to have an option that allows to automatically set the initiative on new features, when this feature is created within an epic linked to an initiative.

When adding a feature to an epic being itself related to an initiative, the feature does not automatically belongs to that initiative. As a result, the feature won't show up automatically in the strategic roadmap. A workaround consist of going on ...

populate release goals and epics for features in the release
