Currently in the Idea Form there is no way to have a field where we have pre-defined values and new ones could be added. (predefined tags with new values would work as well, that's not available either.) Would really appreciate to have one such field.
Thank you for your idea!
The intent of not allowing ideas portal users to add more options to a choice list is to give you the power to control the options. However, your use case does make sense.
We will continue to monitor this idea for community feedback and overall prioritization.
Not having the ability for portal users to add to a list is creating an admin maintenance issue for me. I can understand why users may want that control over some lists and so appreciate the option you have today. But providing an option for users to select from an existing list or create a new value would provide a great amount of flexibility, especially given as that functionality exists in the Aha platform.
Interestingly enough, the ideas portal is actually the only area in which we've wanted to apply an editable choice list to capture additional options that we're not aware of, up front. Editable Choice is so much better than just an open text field for this use case, because it allows us to filter easily. Without this, we must resort to adding an "other" option in addtion to a separate text field for description.
IMO the result of not allowing users to add more options to a choice list does not exactly give more power, but more work for the portal admin - because now we have 2 options: either we tell the users to contact us every time when they need a new tag and add it manually each time, or we create a text field instead of tags where they can just free type, but then it's on the admin to turn text into tags, etc.
Giving more power would be ability to merge tags (i.e. if there are typos or duplicates), but the current solution creates extra admin work and some additional middle man interactions that we'd like to avoid if possible.
Echoing Dmitri and others who have noted similar use cases. We use the Tags field to note customer, and whether the record requires UI Design or UX Design. If we could add it to the portal form, we would only include it on private idea portals, where only team members could see it.
Adding my voice here as well!
I'm in the same use case as Dmitri, the ideas portal is mainly use for sales team to submit ideas and i'd like to have the customer name as a tag and not a base text field so that we can later aggregate ideas together per customer.
Without the possibility of creating value from the form I have to duplicate the "Customer" field: one text field on the form, and one tag fields inside aha & manually enter the tag when reviewing ideas which seems like a pretty heavy workaround for something quite basic.
Best,
Wanted to add my voice to this as well, I'm in a similar situation as Dmitri. I want to use an idea portal as an entry point for Sales to submit things. The customer will likely not exist at this point (potential customer) but I still want them added to a drop down (the editable choice list) instead of using a free text form, mainly for reporting purposes.
I get your logic on not wanting portal users to add more options, but it would be nice if you gave us that choice. The alternative would be to let us use the Organizations field available in proxy voting on the idea form itself. Proxy Voting itself doesn't work in my situation because the 'idea' may not yet exist at all. The 'first person' who submits it, I need them to be able to add a customer name to the editable choice field. The second, third, and fourth person who want to do a proxy vote can use the organization field.
Hope that helps clarify. For what it's worth, this is a big issue for me.
My use-case: As an internal stakeholder (Salesperson, Customer Success, etc), I want to submit on behalf of one or multiple customers I represent and specify which customer(s) would benefit. This can either happen:

For an existing idea
I second this. it seems really limiting and arbitrary to make allowing Ideas portal users to only pick from a pre-defined list of tags, when the unique aspect of the tag fields (vs the pre-defined tags field) is SPECIFICALLY stated as allowing NEW choices to be added.
There are other field types that do NOT allow adding new and only select pre-defined choices. Why not make adding new choices an option?
It's greatly limiting to my Ideas form use case, as well (we want our Ideas users to be able to select one or more of our clients/prospects when they submit an Idea, but we have thousands of clients and an endlessly changing list of prospects so cannot manually manage that as a predefined list on the admin side).
