Custom Gantt from specific product releases

I would like to be able to create custom Gantt chart views that include specific release schedules from different products lines (releases) that are related. For example, let say I several hardware product lines A, B and C, which each has product releases. I also have software product lines X and Y, each having releases. The hardware and software schedules are related because certain software releases must be synched with hardware releases. 

With the current implementation of Product Lines, I can create a Product Line view that includes hardware product line A with software product line X. What I would like to be able to do is go one level deeper and create a custom view that includes hardware product release A.1 with software release X.2. It could include a Product Line as well. I would like saving it as a custom view and notebook. 

If that is doable today, please provide me with instructions how to accomplish it.
