Within a goal, we are looking to sort the linked initiatives by start date/end date to quickly determine a timeline when the goal can be completed.

Hi there, thank you for your idea. We have a similar idea that I will merge this into. In the meantime I wanted to share an option that may work even better.
I would suggest creating a strategic roadmap with a Goal name filter. The filter would allow you to show only the relevant initiatives on the roadmap which you could then sort by start date or end date as needed. This article includes more details on this roadmap. I hope that helps!
