Filter on any data point, not just those included in the report/pivot

I may want to visually limit the data I am including in a pivot or report by a data dimension that I don't actually want included as a row/column/cell in the resulting pivot / report.

For instance i might want to create a view of submitted ideas, on a timeframe and show one view of internal requests and one of external.
