User journey maps lay out a step by step approach to the overall user goal or experience. Each step is then broken into key features, sized for effort and value and then sliced either vertically (but more often horizontally) to create a series of releases. This becomes a huge visual asset for managing what is done in a given step of the user's overall journey, how stories and features relate and how named releases impact one or more functional areas.
