Calendar or fiscal year reporting

I can see the need for generating timelines and reports against a fiscal year, but there are times when it would be more useful (or friendly to a particular report audience) to generate timelines against a calendar year. It would be great to be able to configure calendar v fiscal year in some way, either by product or by timeline reporting.

    I'm trying to find out how to do this, but the link in the 2015 response is broken.

    How can I generate a 'Product roadmap' view that uses Calendar Years instead of Fiscal Year?

    It's not clear how to switch a report between display calendar or fiscal year depending on the use case.  Some audiences (external partners) need to see a timeline by calendar year.  In others cases (finance nerds) they need to see the same timeline by fiscal year.  The only way we seem to be able to achieve this is to artificially reset the fiscal year to align to calendar so the correct report generates.

     

    Am I missing a step here that would make our lives easier?
