Approve ideas portal users granting access

When a user that's not allowed to use the Ideas Portal is trying to register he gets the "Your email domain does not allow you to self register" error. Can I use this error to either redirect the user to ask him to browse to a form where he can enter his email address for approval?

For us its critical. Any ETA for this? We are considering moving to other solution due to lack of this functionality.
