Tag dropdowns often show only the first ~15-20 items in the list. The list of possible choices does update as the user types.
Since the user can't see the full list though, multiple tags are being created that are synonyms. If the user had the ability to see a fuller list - I don't think we'd have this problem. The user would be aware of the existing tag and search/choose it instead. Don't want the number of tags displayed in dropdown lists to change - instead, would like a separate list that users can refer to.
Agree with Claire As comment below - you need to be able to see the tags in one place in a list form to assess and edit them for efficient use and standardization.
Similar to the original requestor here, a lack of visibility to the comprehensive list of tags (either via a report or within the interface dropdown) is preventing us from coming to a consensus on what tag naming conventions and standards we are going to set moving forward.
This is disrupting our ability to tag ideas and features consistently which affects how we report on ideas both internally and to our customers. For example a two word tag may have a multitude of variations that the system treats as unique tags i.e. "Blue ridge", "Blue Ridge", "BLUE RIDGE", "BLUERIDGE", "blueridge", "blue ridge"
If not visibility to a list of the tags somehow, another resolution would be the system recognizing a similar tag and either preventing creation of new similar tags or when a user searches for a tag then similar ones are presented i.e. if they search for "blue ridge" then "BLUE RIDGE" and other variations are also presented.
