Ideas portal form should have consistent treatment of text in dropdown fields

What is the challenge?

The ideas portal add idea form has inconsistent styles for the text shown in dropdown fields. If there is no help text / description terminology, then the blank/default placeholder text is different depending on the field type.

For example:

  • The built-in category field does not display placeholder text

  • Predefined choice list custom field with no help text will show a blank field

  • Predefined tag list custom field with no help text will show "Choose <field name>" -- this can be customized in the terminology but cannot be made blank

The placeholder help text displayed in the field is also a different color depending on the field type. For some it's black text and others it's gray.

What is the impact?

The ideas portal could have a cleaner look.

Describe your idea

All the dropdown fields on the add idea form should have the same text style and behavior.

Dropdown fields on the portal "Add idea" form now have consistent treatment of placeholder help text.

    • Help text will not show within the dropdown field itself

    • The help text will instead only show in the tooltip (?)

We will leave this idea open to track feedback and work on additional improvements to the dropdown styles in the portal.
