Terminology customization for workflow/feature Status title

The workflow of a feature is represented by a Status such as 'in design' however the same workflow can also be aligned to a business process flow such 'market opportunity assessment'. The condition that a particular feature is in becomes the State eg on track, in design. To be able to implement a business centric workflow we would like the feature Status title be customizable for example we could call it stage or phase.
