Ability to move and edit a whiteboard template - or tell users they can't

What is the challenge?

Moving a whiteboard and/or editing any part of a template is risky business. The library of templates for whiteboard elements is great and growing every day, but it would be nice to enable to move templates across the whiteboard with less friction, as well as to edit the templates.

What is the impact?

Various things can happen:

a) A template is typically difficult to move within the whiteboard. Invariably, some elements will remain fixed as though they were locked, although they aren't. It might take repeated efforts to move a template within a whiteboard, with or without success.

b) Of late, moving templates has led to the whole whiteboard freezing. 👉 Example attached. I've had need to refresh the whiteboard repeatedly, close the file and open it again, but the issue still occurs. Going forward, my envisioned workaround is to create a bespoke whiteboard with a single template and never attempt to move it.

c) Editing whiteboard templates is also laborious. The templates are useful, but the purpose of a template is to be adapted to the context at hand.

Describe your idea

1) Ability to move the template as a whole and its contents without surprises.

If that's not possible technically, then users should be told this is not something they can do without breaking or losing some pieces or freezing the whiteboard altogether. I could live with that and create a whiteboard per template.

2) Editing whiteboards:

  • making it easier to resize the whole template with 'ctrl + A' and resizing the whole selection by holding Shift (I'm using Windows OS).

  • making it easier to edit specific elements of the template without having to fiddle too much.

Thanks for reporting this issue with moving frames @Guest! Our team is working on a fix now that will be released shortly. When do you find yourself needing to resize everything in a template, and are you typically scaling it up or down?
