Allow user-defined sorting of Idea Status

Currently, the only sorting that can be performed on Idea Status is Ascending/Descending alphabetical order when that column is used in conjunction with other columns for sorting the overall report. However, in most cases, the Idea Statuses do not highly correlate to their alphabetical sorting. Businesses are free to create their own Idea Status labels with their own meaning and specific ordering. Therefore, unless great pains are made to create and manage an ordered list of Idea Statuses (which both enforces unnecessary constraints on an Idea Status label and detracts from the usefulness of the intended meaning behind the Idea Status), any attempt to sort the ideas list by Idea Status will not result in the desired intent, and ultimately makes the ideas list itself not as useful as it could otherwise be.

 

For example, I am trying to create an Ideas List view which sorts by the following three columns:

 

1. Idea Score (descending)

2. Idea Status (unable to pick the desired sorting order)

3. Idea Last Active date/time (descending)

 

I understand that Idea Statuses have an ordering as defined by a workflow by the administrator and that this is the default sort order of the statuses. However, once choosing to use Idea Status as a sort column, this "default" sort ordering is not selectable--only alphabetical sorting is possible.

 

Re my Needed by selection: I honestly thought that this would be a no-brainer in terms of the intended uses of Idea Statuses and view sorting. Without this functionality, it's impossible, for me as a user (not an admin), to order the ideas list as I want them in order to make the list the most useful to me.

In practicality, is this a show-stopper if this isn't a "top priority"? No. But it sure is annoying for something that I would expect to "just work" out of the box. I would hope that it could be prioritized to appear as a new feature in an upcoming release within a reasonable timeframe, say 1 - 2 months. But of course, only you can make the determination of where this falls on your prioritized backlog, if at all; so I am hopefully looking forward to seeing this feature at some point in the not too distant future.

    Hi there, thank you for your idea! It made us aware of some confusing behavior when sorting by idea status. Currently the label will show "Sort A to Z" and "Sort Z to A" however it will actually sort by the order of the statuses in the workflow. This is how the sort is intended to work, however the label is currently wrong. We will promote this to a feature to get the label updated accordingly.

    In the meantime, Sort A to Z is the equivalent of sorting your statuses first to last. And vice versa with Sort Z to A.

    I hope this helps. We will ship this idea when the labels have been updated.

    Thanks!! OK, when talking to support, that's precisely what I was unclear about. And my ideas did not sort the way I expected, so now I know I need to go back to the person in charge of the workflow to have those labels ordered appropriately.
