What is the challenge? |
Shapes can interfere with the layers of sticky notes. It often happens that a shape will appear on top of sticky notes even when having been sent to the back, and having also sent the sticky notes to the front. The sticky notes within a shape will not be selectable even when repeatedly selecting the shape to go to the back. It seems to be a bit of a bug, especially when a shape is drawn over a selection of sticky notes, and one starts formatting the shape e.g. by filling the shape with a colour. Something similar can happen with templates (other attached image). A sticky note can end up stuck behind the template. I click everywhere on it and around it, but I cannot select the sticky note. When I move the template around, the sticky note is part of the rest. However, I can no longer access the sticky note to edit it. |
What is the impact? |
One cannot always group sticky notes using a shape. Shapes work better in terms of layering in other whiteboard solutions. This is not a systematic issue, but can be a recurring bug nonetheless. It has happened on and off since 2023. I may have to revise how I do research with whiteboards by keeping shapes and templates to a bare minimum. |
Describe your idea |
Suggestion for shapes: explicitly mention in the Aha! Knowledge Base that sticky notes should best be used within frames or tables if one wants to keep them in a container or group them in some way. Users should be warned that drawing a shape over a bunch of sticky notes can lead to unpredictable layering loops. |
