Make it easier to identify the correct Goals and Initiatives when setting in downstream records

Who would benefit?

Organizations that need to ensure that a large group of users link records together in a consistent way for roll up reporting.

What impact would it make?

Improved data quality by providing a narrow selection of possible goals and initiatives an initiative/release/epic/feature could be linked to.

How should it work?

A couple of potential options:

  • Only allow users to select goals/initiatives in the same workspace as the epic/feature

  • Only allow users to select goals/initiatives in the same workspace as the epic/feature, as well as the parent line of the workspace

  • Only allow users to select goals/initiatives in the parent line

  • Allow users to select goals/initiatives from any parent line in the parent/child hierarchy of the workspace

Hello, Aha - just got the email that this idea was shipped, but what was shipped? Several possibilities were suggested to better manage strategic linking. I didn't spot any changes to workspace or account configuration, or read anything in the What's New post last week. Please do share!

I wanting to gain a clear hierarchal structure from business goals > workspace goals > initiatives. Currently when I go to link an initiative to a workspace goal, business goals appear allowing the user to jump a level of the hierarchy. It would be great to have the option to configure which goals appear when linking an initiative to a goal.

I agree with Linda's point on being able to filter initiatives. In our case, we would like to prevent users from being able to associate objects to initiatives that are in statuses like "Will not do" or "Closed". This is not currently possible.

To enable users to pick the correct initiative when assigning against an epic, it would be useful to filter the initiatives in the results to only show those linked to the goal for selection.

Equally, when goals and initiatives have been set to abandoned or no longer being used, these too should be suppressed from any results when creating new records but kept for historic purposes against previous work.
