I really believe the structure of the feature board could (and should) be greatly enhanced by adding the possibility to define swimlanes (for instance by theme). I know there are pivot reports that allow you to create an overview like this, but it should be combined with the interactivity of the feature board.
This is the way we do release planning, balancing topics and capacity. The current feature board is quite chaotic and does not support us very well in keeping the overview.
I meant swimlanes by release "as an alternative to", as opposed to "instead of". Swimlanes by user is also a helpful view.

Being able to configure the workflow board to use swimlanes for Release (sorted by date if possible, earliest at the top) instead of user would be very helpful.
