Widget Based Home page
Widget-based homepages display a standard homepage that contains various widgets the user can configure. Important links & urls, broadcast messaging, metrics dashboard, etc.

Love this idea and think it would be great combined with the Idea below. Basically allow the user to customize, but also give the admin to embed a 'sticky' widget that the user can't turn off (to be used for instructions, user guides, etc)
