I wanted to create an automation to update the external release date to match the release date on a release when that changes. Arguably we should just do this automatically already... but I was hoping that Automation would solve the issue
After setting up my rule and testing it, I realized that it is not currently supported. The only option at the current time is to set the external release date to a value relative to the current date which apparently means today's date.
Aha! should support setting dates relative the the value of another date field that has just been updated so that things can be passed up. Almost every date-based automation i can think of would need this functionality to work correctly.
It hopefully would be a relatively straight forward change to add another dropdown in place of "the current date" to let people select other date fields instead:
You can now add an automation rule that will update a date field to be based on a different date field.
This would work well for my team as well as I'd like to set automation rules to show status updates on our various board views.
Agreed, this is key to one of the pieces of automation I'm trying to build at the moment - I'm trying to set the start/due date of a user story to the start/end date of the release to which I assign it. At the moment, I have to run a list report and bulk edit all stories within a given release to update their dates. Mockup attached of what I'm trying to do
I want to create an automation rule that would update/display the target delivery date in Idea from from feature form.
I also need this ability in the automation rules. I won't to update the Master feature start and due date based on moving a master feature from one release phase to another. I'm using release phases to align with the sprint number.
I also need the today function to work in worksheets. I have ROI formulas that need to know if this Master feature will ship in the current year.
