Filtering options for selectable records when doing parent/child relationship

What is the challenge?

• When linking a child record (e.g., a feature, epic, initiative) to its parent record, the Parent selection field only allows searching by ID or Name. There are no filtering capabilities based on other parent attributes such as Release, Product, Status, Workspace, Tags, or custom fields.

• In environments with a large number of parent records, users often need to know contextual information (for example, which release a parent belongs to) before selecting it. Without filtering, users must manually search through long lists or open additional views to identify the correct parent, making the process time-consuming and error-prone.

What is the impact?

• Increased effort and time required to associate child records with the correct parent.

• Greater risk of linking records to the wrong parent, especially when parent names are similar.

• Reduced data quality and traceability across the hierarchy.

• Lower user productivity, particularly for teams managing large backlogs spanning multiple releases and products.

• Enhance the Parent selection field by adding advanced filtering and contextual display options for parent records - similar to existing capabilities when establishing relationship between records.

• Additional functionality: Display additional contextual columns in the parent picker (e.g., Release, Status, Product) alongside ID and Name.
