Preserve phase date calculation defaults when using release templates

What is the challenge?
  • When release phase date calculations are set by default in workspace settings to Calculate from features, creating a new release from a release template can still create each phase with its date calculation set to manual instead.

  • This creates an inconsistency between the configured default and the behavior when phases are created from a template.

What is the impact?
  • Teams must update the calculation method for every phase in every new release created from a template.

  • Available workarounds, such as bulk editing phase calculation methods or copying an existing release and adjusting dates, are cumbersome and inefficient.

  • As release usage scales, this manual overhead can become a recurring administrative burden across many users.

Describe your idea.
  • Apply the workspace default release phase date calculation method whenever a release phase is created, including when the phase is created through a release template.

  • If the default is set to Calculate from features, new phases created from templates should inherit that setting automatically instead of defaulting to manual.
