Add configurable Count summary options in pivot tables to distinguish between record count and field count

What is the challenge?

The Count summary function in pivot tables behaves differently based on whether "Show cell headers" is enabled. When off, it counts records. When on, it counts individual field values in those columns. Customers expect Count to consistently return the number of records, regardless of display settings.

What is the impact?

Customers who need cell headers for readability and grouping cannot get accurate record counts. They must either remove additional fields (losing context) or create separate reports just for counts (reducing efficiency). This limits pivot tables from serving as comprehensive, all-in-one reporting tools.

Describe your idea

Add configuration options for the Count summary function so customers can choose:

  • Count of records (line items/rows)

  • Count of field values (current behavior with cell headers)

The inability for the count to focus on cell details and being tied to a formatting option reduces the value of then having efficient in-app reporting/dashboards/webpages. The intent of formatting is to help in the understanding and consumption of the content whereas the total / count features are to provide the summary of that data to avoid having to create multiple side-by-side reports or export to excel and perform similar functions to have one report.
