Drag-and-drop Now Next Later Roadmap Merged

What is the challenge?

The Now/Next/Later roadmap requires features to have date ranges configured before they appear on the view. Without dates set, features simply don't show up, with no clear indication of why. This makes the NNL roadmap feel overly complex for what should be a simple prioritisation tool. The suggested workaround of creating custom fields and using pivot tables adds further complexity rather than solving the underlying issue.

What is the impact?

Teams adopt Now/Next/Later roadmapping specifically to move away from rigid, date-driven planning. The current implementation undermines this by making arbitrary date ranges a prerequisite just to categorise items by priority. This creates friction when priorities shift frequently, as users must update date ranges rather than simply dragging items between columns. For teams wanting lightweight, flexible prioritisation, this makes the feature impractical to use, leading them to seek alternative tools.

Describe your idea

Create a true drag-and-drop Now/Next/Later board where features can be added directly to columns without requiring date configuration. Items should be easily draggable between Now, Next, and Later as priorities change. The view should function as a simple Kanban-style prioritisation tool that operates independently of date ranges, allowing teams to use NNL as a pure priority-based view rather than a time-based one.

Now Next Later roadmaps shouldn't be tied to dates, these are much more of a kanban style view than something tied to a calendar.
