Allow Atlassian service account user to be used in Jira integration

What is the challenge?

  • Atlassian released the ability to create dedicated service accounts as part of Jul 28 to Aug 4, 2025 release

  • These service accounts do not sit in the Jira directory but instead use a token and email address

  • I am getting an authentication error when using the service account credentials to configure a Jira integration

What is the impact?

Cannot use Atlassian service account

    • read:issue:jira-software

    • read:issue:jira

    • read:sprint:jira-software

    • read:resolution:jira

    • read:jira-user

    • read:jira-work

    Write

    • write:issue:jira-software

    • write:issue:jira

    • write:sprint:jira-software

    • write:jira-work

    Manage

    • manage:jira-webhook

    • manage:jira-project
