Allow filtering to apply to a subset of data within a pivot

What is the challenge?

Because of the relational nature of reporting in Aha!, filters applied for child records of the primary record will impact the primary record data points included in my report. It would be great to be able to apply filters separately to a particular record similar to how you can filter by column in the hierarchy report.

What is the impact?

Multiple reports and/or use of calculation columns is required to achieve the desired output.

Describe your idea

Generically, I want to know how to show ALL [parent item subject to parent field filters] with [child items subject to child field filters, blank if no child items match child filter].

Example:

  • Objective A has 2 Key Results, both are included in 'FY2024 Q4'

  • Objective B has 1 Key Result, which is included in 'FY2025 Q1'

  • Objective C has no Key Results

  • I want to see ALL Objectives and only Key Results in 'FY2024 Q1'

  • Output:

    • Objective A and 2 Key Results

    • Objective B and Blank Key Results

    • Objective C and Blank Key Results

We are able to solve this problem with advanced filtering using subgroups and Is blank, but this idea would be a much more elegant solution. As it is now, we have only a few 'advanced report writers' who can maintain the filters to get this kind of output, and it completely eliminates the ability for a non-expert viewing the report to adjust the filters without breaking them.

We have a similar issue filtering on the release name. It filters out based on the primary record (epic), but this hides some secondary records (feature) which are actually in the release which we are filtering on.

When running a report that includes more than one type of record (initiatives and features, for example), we'd like to be able to filter on the secondary record without losing primary records that don't have any data in the secondary record type. ...
