Allow automations to update records created by the same automation

What is the challenge?

Automations can be used to create new to-do, approvals, work-requests, and even requirements on features. It would be helpful to be able to populate certain fields on the newly created records at the same time that they are created.

Today, you would either need to create a second automation rule (which is not supported for to-dos, approvals and work requests) or manually tag the to-do which defeats the object of the automation.

What is the impact?

This would be really helpful for populating new records and building templates of to-dos and/or requirements.


It would also enhance reporting. For example:

A tag is added to the feature, this triggers the creation of a to-do on that feature, and I want to add a tag to the new to-do to say what type of to-do task it is.

This will allow me to create a pivot with consistant columns which can be used to categorize those to-dos -- Name cannot be because each to-do will be treated as a new column.

Describe your idea

When configuring the automation rule, add option to populate fields in created to-do, approvals, work-requests, or requirement layout. See attached for where fields could be added.
