Turn Off Notification Icons Merged

Some administrators and core users can sometimes get 100s of notifications in a day. That is fine via the email setup, but we should not also have to constantly see the circle icon in the window tab and on the user account icon. The only way to get rid of that constantly showing up is to go to notifications page and mark ideas as read (which does not work consistently) which doesn't matter because usually another one comes up in a matter of minutes at times. Is there any reason why there needs to be those icons? Can't there just be an option to stop those from showing up as they can be a real annoyance.
