Whilst I may want them at the top level to cascade down, I don't necessarily want all custom fields to appear in all releases / features and need the ability to suppress them.
also need the ability to re-order them in the view .
This, combined with the ability to make them mandatory, will provide the flexibility needed.

In the future, we are likely to implement the ability to re-order fields in a view. We do currently offer the ability to create custom fields at the product level, but do not foresee adding flexibility to show/hide them based on specific releases and features.
We plan to merge this idea with another which is related to re-ordering
