When two ideas are merged, I want to see the comments for both in the comments section.
When merging ideas together, a link to the merged idea is provided. From this link, its possible to access the additional comments for the merged idea(s).
Because of the easy access to this information, and current priorities, we are unlikely to make changes in this area. We hope you can understand.
We're getting this question all the time. Although it's possible to access this information - most portal users won't go out of their way to look at duplicate ideas comments, especially as duplicates don't surface in the portal as default. Because votes are merged, users expect comments to be merged too.
I understand it's a 'nice to have' from the Portal users perspective, but either way the heaviest downsides are from administration and analytics lens. If I want to deliver "all comments and votes available for an idea", I have to do data exports and manually map the values. As a result, we might have to start moving comments manually as we merge - which will mean copying a comment over and deleting the old one, so also extra work.
