As there is no way to pass-on the ideas category from Ideas layout to the promoted features layout, I created a custom field to pass on the value. Due to this there are two category fields on the ideas layout which is causing confusion to users.
Currently there is no way to have a hidden field or a read-only field option available while creating custom fields. There are use cases where PMs would like to show info on the portal without users changing it; eg., Release info, roadmap link etc. Having this option for custom fields will help admins to create read-only fields for several purposes both on ideas & features layout.
Hi there, thank you for your idea. At this point we do not have plans to allow read-only fields on records inside Aha! We will continue to monitor feedback on this idea.
In the meantime, I did want to mention a couple things that might help.
The upcoming drawer and details view updates will automatically hide empty fields to give you a more concise view. This should mean that the custom field you added will be hidden by default which may help with initial confusion.
You mentioned other use cases where you would like to show read-only fields in portals (I believe I understood this correctly.) This is possible today. When setting up your ideas layouts, any field you include in the Ideas portal layout, but not the Ideas form layout will be read-only in the portal. This article explains how to setup ideas custom fields in more detail.
