Pivot report >Custom Fields - Notes enable sorting

Within Pivot you are able to sort on the custom field - text

However you are not able to sort on the custom field - Note

Within the system text is defined as a single line of text, whereas note is defined as a multi line string of text.

The only difference from that definition is the length of text. The sort would only take into account the first word or numerical value in the text so why is the length a factor ?
