Allow Elle and external tools (via MCP) to edit custom table records

What is the challenge?

  • Today, support for Elle editing custom table records appears incomplete and inconsistent.

  • Elle can update custom table records via a one-to-many relationship field (June release notes)

  • But when attempting to add entries directly to a custom table via Elle or the remote MCP server, record creation can fail, even though the equivalent REST API call succeeds.

  • This creates a gap between what users can do through the API, what they can sometimes do through Elle in-app, and what external tools can do through MCP.

What is the impact?

  • Users cannot reliably use Elle or MCP-connected external tools to add, update, or remove entries in custom tables.

  • This limits trust in Elle for data management and makes custom tables less useful in AI-driven workflows.

Describe your idea

  • Allow Elle and external tools via MCP to fully manage custom table records, including adding, updating, and removing entries.

  • Make behavior consistent across in-app Elle, remote MCP, and the REST API.

From an account admin perspective, giving Elle and the remote MCP the ability to directly add records to a custom table would be quite helpful from a usability perspective. I have teams leveraging custom tables as a source of workspace-specific reference data for many-to-one relationship fields (the opposite of what the June release notes say Elle can accomplish).

Using Elle add new records to the table makes the update experience faster and more pleasant than both: (1) manually adding many updates, and (2) jumping through all the CSV download/copy/paste/reformat/upload/wizard hoops for bulk import.

Delegating the whole activity to Elle would be a big boost in empowering the non-technical SMEs to make big changes quickly.
