What is the challenge? |
Today, large pivot tables take long time to render. Further if the dataset is large and being truncated, nothing no information is shown. What makes it even worse is the webpage report of the pivot table doesn't even tell you it's been truncated and thus no information will be shown. It just eventually shows a blank table. |
What is the impact? |
Can't generate report on the data needed due to data size limits and full truncation.
Shouldn't have to wait several minutes to then see that the data is too large and noting will be shown.
It causes confusion for users of webpage reports because there is no explanation that data is too large and thus can't be shown.

Describe your idea |
Provide some options for reporting on larger datasets:
figure out a way to handle larger data or some way to page the data
allow hiding columns in list reports so in some cases pivot tables won't be needed
Check dataset size earlier to see if truncation is going to be an issue and fail early.
Provide truncation error to webpage reports.
