What is the challenge? |
Using this newly developed record, Task, as opposed to abusing the Feature record. Forcing us to add custom Feature > Types for things like "Create Test Plan" which aren't actual features. |
What is the impact? |
Using Task to eliminate record noise and confusion and reduce View filtering. Eliminating having to repeatedly recreate sets of the same "Features" for every project that again, aren't actual features. The new Task record would account for all other work that is involved in properly releasing a project, and showing this in the Release/Gantt, and assigning personnel to each task. |
Describe your idea |
MUST HAVE... Develop a new record for Releases called Task. MUST HAVE... Minimally, the Task record is to contain an "Assigned To" (just like the Feature record). MUST HAVE... Task to show up under My Work. So that personnel see what tasks are assigned to them, in addition to features and the other record types. MUST HAVE... Task being part of creating Release Templates. Having the ability to list Tasks by themselves, or also the ability to structure groups of Tasks under Release Phases. I'm honestly not even sure how Release Templates are useful/helpful without having both Release Phases and Tasks. Having to choose a category for this Idea... I chose My Work since that's what drove me down this whole path. This Idea also applies to Releases and Capacity Planning (from the list of choices). |
You could also consider adding a Tasks navigation tab. Because this too would be an important record type that can be viewed as a List just like a Feature. Or showing tasks laid out on Workflow just like Features as another view for status and what's assigned to individuals, and so on. Now, since a lot of Tasks would be repeated from project to project, the Workspace name and Release name and Task status would be required (default View) for the View so the user can visually see all that at once for quick bearings of project status. And of course, any further filtering a person would want to do like you have for all your Views.
