Enhancement Request: Improved Attachment Management in Knowledge Base Articles

What is the challenge?

When working with large knowledge base articles, I often need to break them into smaller documents. After copying a note and deleting text, the attachments from the original article are retained—even if they’re no longer used in the new version. These unused attachments still appear in the GENERAL section, making the article appear much longer than it is. The long list of attachments slows down the page and clutters the interface. Additionally, each attachment must be deleted individually, which becomes tedious when managing many files.

What is the impact?

  • I can only delete attachments one by one, which is time-consuming and inefficient.

  • The long list of unused attachments increases the vertical length of the page, making the scrollbar tiny and harder to navigate.

  • Performance suffers when there are many attachments, even if they’re not used in the text area.

  • Overall, it reduces the manageability and clarity of documents.

Describe your idea

I’d like to propose the addition of an Attachments tab in the article view. This tab would replace the current inline display of attachments under the GENERAL section.

This tab would include:

  • A Select mode that enables checkboxes next to each attachment (since currently clicking opens the image).

  • Options to Select All, Delete Selected, and manage attachments in bulk.

  • Ideally, some indicator of whether an attachment is actually used in the article body would be great for reference.

  • This would improve usability, declutter the page layout, and support cleaner content workflows.

  • Attach files

Thanks @Guest! This feedback is very helpful, and we are planning to make improvements to handling attachments later this year. How often do you have attachments that you want to show up in the Attachments section, but not in the document itself? Or would it be preferable to have the Attachments section only show the items that are currently in the document?
