Currently, external customers get a portal invite message to their mailbox. It asks them to "join" and set a password.. That is ok.. but once they setup a password.. I expect that another email would be sent stating that "your password" was set.. and here is the link to the portal. Currently it looks as if they need to click on the "join" message again, see the tiny "log in" so they can be routed to the "login flow".

When portal users receive their invitation and set their password, they are automatically logged in and taken to the ideas portal. We do not send another welcome email after that in order to avoid spamming them with unnecessary emails.
I agree over comm with the customer is problematic.. but the current button is very confusing.. and actually not redirecting to a login page.. it redirects to the exact same page of password.. with a red message that the reset link is outdated!!! is this serious? The user needs to detect the tiny "sign in" in order to get to the right page
Suggestion:
In the initial "join email", if you dont want to send another message include the option to "if you already created your password --> click here" to a login page that would lead the user in the right direction.
Another option is to detect whether a user has password and direct them to the login page automatically.. this is abit harder to accomplish..
In any case the current flow is the worst one.. where you simply ignore a bad flow.. any one of the options suggested is better than what we have now
