Dependency roadmap as a standard view

Who would benefit?

Users that:

• need to track upstream work they are dependent on

• need to understand downstream work that is dependent on their work

• need to easily identify delivery risks based on dependencies

What impact would it make?

A roadmap is a great visual for understanding the relationship between two pieces of work.

How should it work?

In a nutshell:

• A Gantt can show two dependent work items linked by an arrow, but with large volumes, this can become difficult to interpret.

• The proposed design uses a custom roadmap format to show the downstream work in a column (with columns for any other related data), and the upstream work on the roadmap bars (with any other related data).

• A calculated column is used to compare the start date of the downstream work with the due date of the upstream work (identify if work item A is planned to complete after the start date of work item B). Problematic dependencies are highlighted in red, while others are green.
