Allow Sorting Rows/Columns in the Pivot Table

Currently, the Pivot Table does not allow sorting column and row headings - everything is sorted in ascending order. We should use the same tech for sorting cell contents to allow sorting row and column headings.

Today we have delivered powerful new sorting capabilities for pivot tables, charts, and custom roadmaps. You can now build the perfect report and organize the view exactly how you need it. Check out the blog post for more details.

I've added a new request here for the problem in my comment above. https://big.ideas.aha.io/ideas/APP-I-4936

It is awesome to see this feature released. Thank you.
Unfortunately it doesn't solve one of my sorting needs. I have a timeline report, in which I visualise release names and release dates for several releases of several products from several product lines simultaneously. It is quite a neat report, and one that gets used in high-level monthly reports. The only problem is that I can't sort the rows (with row headers showing product line and product names) in the way I need. On this report, some of my product lines are internal products that are dependencies of some other external products. I would like to put the rows with internal product lines at the top of my report, so the dependencies flow downwards. Unfortunately if the product line names were 'A', 'B', 'C', it turns out 'B' is the internal line. So there's no way I can sort (ascending or descending) to get the row for 'B' at the top of the report. What I need is arbitrary sort order (e.g. using those little grab bars that look like hamburger menus). Even if I were to make a custom field that creates the order I wanted, in other reports I might want to display using another apparently arbitrary order (that makes sense to me). Please add an arbitrary sort order in the report view itself.

Understandable that alpha sorting was MVP for this but this enhancement will massively improve the presentation of reports. I often feel reluctant to use them in management presentations because not having it sorted by some useful datum just looks sloppy. Can't wait to see this!

We have the same issue that release names in alpha order are not the order of the timeline

Is this feature still likely to be implemented? I would love to be able to sort my pivot table by the column or row headers so that I can order by date, status, etc...!

Just having the parking lot at the "end" would be great

A must have. Our releases appear in random order in the pivot tables

This is business critical for us! Simply sorting in alphabetical order is practically useless as we need to report on release timeline. For example, I have upcoming releases that are at the bottom of my pivot table because they're name aptly appears towards the end of the alphabet. This not conducive to proper/accurate reporting from a product management perspective. To accommodate, I have to create a separate List report sorted by release date, which adds to confusion and clarity.

I imagine this might work by enabling the row header to be dragged up/down, much like column headers can be dragged sideways in the table list views. At least that's how I'd love to be able to re-sort my Pivot and Timeline reports. I expect it might also be useful to provide a section to choose "sort by" criteria somewhere in the configuration area.

This should apply not just to Pivot Tables, but also Timeline Reports.

I see that there a quite a few votes. When will this be planned for release? This will be very useful.

In one case, we want columns per release, and unfortunately the columns are sorted by Release Name instead of release date.  Currently there seems to only be sorting within each cell

Agree - crazy that timeline and pivots default to sorting alphabetically vs. allowing user to specify. For timelines, start date would be far more logical (as a start).

This is critical for us.  We have custom fields that imply a workflow order.  In some cases the naming requires a descending sort.  A simple case involves tagging products by strategic horizon (H3,H2,H1) where H3 is logically the first in a product or business lifecycle.

Sorting a pivot table that totals the number of ideas submitted per user. The sorting here needs to be based on the count of ideas submitted by a User.

I can create a pivot table that totals the number of ideas submitted per user, but sorting appears to be handled alphabetically even if you change the report to list a numerical count (as opposed to text names). This really is basic.

Ability to sort on a pivot table via the row (and not alphabetical)

Merged
Currently in a pivot table if you have rows being returned and you may have multiple rows, we be ideal to decide which row you want to sort by rather than by default it sorts by the first row and alphabetical order. This isn't always appropriate w...
